Streamlining Your RPA Journey: Migrating to UiPath Automation Cloud with the UiPath Migration Tool

Welcome back to the diyRPA blog! Today, we're focusing on a pivotal aspect of RPA evolution: migrating from an on-premises UiPath environment to the UiPath Automation Cloud. This transition is made smoother and more efficient with the use of UiPath's Migration Tool. In this post, we'll explore how to leverage this tool effectively, ensuring a seamless migration.

Understanding the UiPath Migration Tool

The UiPath Migration Tool is designed to facilitate the transfer of various components from your on-premises environment to the cloud. It covers a wide range of elements, including settings, packages, libraries, and more. However, it's important to note certain limitations and requirements for a successful migration.

Key Components and Considerations

  1. Settings: Most on-premises settings are migrated, but some, like host logo and color, cannot be modified in the cloud. Passwords in settings are not exported, affecting elements like email alerts and external feeds.

  2. Packages: All packages and their versions are migrated. For external package feeds with basic authentication, credentials will need re-entering post-migration.

  3. Libraries: Only tenant-level library feeds are migrated. Host-level or external libraries not accessible over the internet are excluded.

  4. Machines: Machines are migrated, but machine keys are not. If insufficient licenses are available, machine slots are set to zero.

  5. Folders and Environments: Personal workspace folders are not migrated. Environments are migrated for classic folders but not for modern folders.

  6. Robots: Both classic and modern robots are migrated, with some conditions. For modern robots, the associated on-premises user must have an email address already invited to Automation Cloud.

  7. Processes, Queues, and Triggers: These are all migrated, but triggers are set as disabled initially.

  8. Assets: Boolean, Text, and Integer asset types are fully supported. Credential assets are migrated with a dummy password and require manual updating in the cloud.

Step-by-Step Migration Process

  1. Preparation: Back up your data and ensure all workflows are compatible with the cloud environment. Update any necessary components.

  2. Using the Migration Tool: Configure the tool according to your specific requirements, ensuring all necessary components are included in the migration.

  3. Post-Migration: After migration, re-enter any required passwords and credentials. Enable and test your triggers, and verify that all components are functioning as expected.

  4. Optimization: Continuously monitor and optimize your workflows in the cloud environment for maximum efficiency.

Migrating to UiPath Automation Cloud using the Migration Tool can significantly streamline your RPA processes, offering enhanced scalability and flexibility. While the tool covers a broad spectrum of components, attention to detail is crucial for a successful migration. By following these guidelines, you can ensure a smooth transition to a more dynamic and efficient cloud-based RPA environment.
